‘Music, alcohol and a tiny bit of food’. This has often been my response in recent times whenever I am asked as to how I am doing. And to a large degree it is the truth. Throw in sleep, guided meditation, radio, tv, audiobooks, meeting up with friends and that is about it. It’s a relatively simple life. Why did it take me so long to hit on it?
My desire to become the worlds leading Guinness guzzling, cocktail sipping, vision impaired classical guitarist continues daily. I have 27 pieces in my repertoire and there it will stay for the foreseeable future. Focus is the new craze. Of the 27 I can play 5 at full speed, however I am knocking on the door with another dozen or so. All bar one are within reach. ‘Recuerdos de La Alhambra’ is a piece apart, approximately 10 notes per second. My current speed is just short of 4. If ever I get to comfortably playing that particular baby then I know I will have arrived.
The gigs in The Great Institution are still ongoing. We’re back on this Wednesday coming so fingers crossed for that. Busking has evolved into something of a monthly group get together and there is also the occasional nursing home performance.
The musical journey never ends. Destination unknown.
