Musical update

‘Music, alcohol and a tiny bit of food’. This has often been my response in recent times whenever I am asked as to how I am doing. And to a large degree it is the truth. Throw in sleep, guided meditation, radio, tv, audiobooks, meeting up with friends and that is about it. It’s a relatively simple life. Why did it take me so long to hit on it?

My desire to become the worlds leading Guinness guzzling, cocktail sipping, vision impaired classical guitarist continues daily. I have 27 pieces in my repertoire and there it will stay for the foreseeable future. Focus is the new craze. Of the 27 I can play 5 at full speed, however I am knocking on the door with another dozen or so. All bar one are within reach. ‘Recuerdos de La Alhambra’ is a piece apart, approximately 10 notes per second. My current speed is just short of 4. If ever I get to comfortably playing that particular baby then I know I will have arrived.

The gigs in The Great Institution are still ongoing. We’re back on this Wednesday coming so fingers crossed for that. Busking has evolved into something of a monthly group get together and there is also the occasional nursing home performance.

The musical journey never ends. Destination unknown.

  1. Isn’t it wonderful when we can be enough, it can make life so much more.

I tried to learn the guitar a few times but my pudgy little fingers never managed to move from fret to fret. However I have always loved guitar music. It was always part of my paper crafting.

You have just reminded me of john williams playing that same piece which sounds so intricate but I hadn’t realised that there were 10 notes per second. Yikes.

However think I need to add it to my playlist for my writing mornings. Perhaps it might improve where my story is not going.

    Have a great week.

    1. Hi Noilin,
Yes, ‘enough’ would appear to be an important word!
Sorry to hear that your guitar career was short lived, sounds like piano might be more your thing.
I just had a brief listen to a John Williams ’Recuerdos’ clip. He makes it look so easy which it most definitely is not!!

      Best wishes,
      Peter
