It’s into the latter end of July and so it must be time to see what’s happening in Staines Palace. The King and Queen have very kindly freed up their busy schedules to accommodate My Good Self and so I am on the move again.

Having made the switch a few seasons back from plane to ferry and train, I can only say this was one of my better decisions in life. A simple phone call to make the booking, an early morning taxi to the port, a prompt check in with no queues and excellent assistance to a comfortable seat and table on the ferry. Complimentary coffee and pastries soon followed and I could reflect on the stark contrast to life in Dublin airport. There really is no comparison. Air travel is the sensible option for many journeys but for shorter trips the sail/rail option is a far better bet.

All set then for arrival at the Palace.
