Tonight sees the final of the Euro 2020 football tournament between England and Italy.
England, who have home advantage with the game taking place at Wembley Stadium, are playing in their first final since they won the World Cup in 1966. Italy are one of footballs most successful countries with four World Cup wins and one European Championship victory in 1968. England have moved steadily along as this tournament has progressed and have only conceded one goal in six matches. Italy began their campaign with a strong 3-0 win over Turkey and are unbeaten in 33 games but will be without their best player, Spinazzola, who is out through injury. Leaving aside a certain semi final penalty controversy, England forward Raheem Sterling has arguably been the player of the tournament so far. The Italian defenders Chiellini and Bonucci are legends of the game but they are relatively old in footballing terms. The two managers, Gareth Southgate and Roberto Mancini, have both been rightly acclaimed.
So how will it go? Given that both teams pride themselves on defence it is unlikely that there will be any early goals however as the game moves into its latter stages the speedy England attack may well prevail.
So there it is, footballs coming home.
