Sporting cold turkey

The Fat Lady has almost finished singing her 2021 Six Nations aria. France play Scotland on Friday evening in a postponed game that will bring the curtain down on this years concert.

Leaving aside The Pizza Pasta Lads, there has been some very entertaining rugby on display in the past few weeks. Ireland recovered well from a stuttering start to give the Auld Enemy a good thumping. Wales surprised almost everyone, possibly even themselves. France rediscovered their old flair. The Scots are again competitive. And what of England? The famed 2019 World Cup semi final win over the All Blacks is getting more distant by the day.

With no Cheltenham, cricket or club football to cling on to this week, attention turns to the international footballing stage.

The Boys In Green take on Serbia tonight as they begin their quest for the dubious honour of playing football in Qatar in December of next year. If there is a worse example of misuse of money than the staging of the 2022 World Cup in a country where many people have died building stadiums that will struggle for use when the soccer show moves out of town. then I would like to hear about it.

One of the more interesting games to keep an eye on tonight may well be that of Belgium and Wales. Ranked the number one side in the world, the Belgians possess many great players yet they have struggled in recent times against the Welsh.

Over in Chessland, the big news is that the King of Namibia has thrown down the gauntlet to My Good Self and I have accepted his challenge. With a rating of 1460 he would appear to be a good match for my seesawing chess skills however the fact that I am now playing six games at the same time does not augur well in the search for consistency.

Will I ever learn? Maybe.

And so this is how the Baileys coffee is going down this Wednesday March morning.

A bientot mes amis.
