The Conversational Cake

So this is Christmas.

And what have we done?

At this point in proceedings My Good Self must speak in very hushed tones.

I have had a good year.

Conveniently leaving to one side the fact that the world is in something of a state of chassis, and that the old spherical objects are not quite what they used to be, I can only say that I am trotting quite nicely thanks all the same.

Amongst other things 2020 saw the establishment of The Virtual Music School For People With Disabilities. I am a strong believer in the power of music as a life enhancing force and so it is a source of great satisfaction to me that this project is up and running, and continues to tick along nicely.

My thanks go to all who supported this initiative.

This year also saw me take a new direction with my classical guitar. I had been a student of The Guitar Man for around six years. I have much to thank him for. He gave me direction and taught me all of the skills necessary to play this style of music. However, up to the time when we called it quits in June of this year, I could not point to any one piece of music that I could successfully play.

Clearly there was something wrong, somewhere.

And so I have embarked on a new journey with my online friends in Elite Guitarist and am very much enjoying that.

Lockdown number one gave me the opportunity to have a close look at how my home town has been evolving and also to do a bit of scribbling on that subject. The absence of street furniture and traffic was nothing short of a gift. The dearth of bodies was strange but also peaceful in its own way.

On the human side of things a few new people have pleasantly entered the equation.

And on the flip of that particular coin, I have also managed to seriously offend a body or two. Or three.

Par for the course.

Looking ahead to 2021, I will be seeking to grab a bigger slice, for vision impaired and disabled people, of something that I am calling The Conversational Cake.

Awareness is one of the big issues for those of us who are a little different.

The challenge is to increase the level of conversation on these matters of difference.

An increase in conversation equals better awareness equals more understanding.

Whenever the opportunity presents itself the idea is to enhance the presence of vision impaired and disabled people both online and on stage.

And so that’s about it.

My thanks to you, my dear readers, for your continued support.

A bientot, mes amis.
