In a strange way it’s really good to see that Manchester United are finally back.
Yes, they had won three cup competitions under managers Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, however the true indication of a teams standing is reflected in their League position and United have mostly struggled in this regard since the departure in 2013 of the great Alex Ferguson.
And their famed, swashbuckling, never say die brand of football had disappeared completely.
Until now.
In December 2018 former United player Ole Gunnar Solskjær was appointed caretaker manager of the club.
After a very successful initial period in charge, Solskjær was appointed as manager proper in March 2019.
Soon after the appointment results started to go against him and United, and doubts started to emerge as to whether he was the right man for the job.
Until the arrival of a gentleman by the name of Bruno Fernandes. Although he is just one player it would appear that Fernandes has had an uplifting affect on the entire United team. Their unsettled midfielder Paul Pogba is starting to perform again and a new lethal weapon in the shape of striker Mason Greenwood has been unearthed.
And so next season Liverpool and Manchester United will have a genuine rivalry once again.
In my younger days Liverpool were top dogs with United winning occasional cups. From the mid nineties to 2013 it was the other way around.
For now The Boys From Anfield are the kings, The Red Devil’s are hot in pursuit and a man by the name of Pep Guardiola will look to restore Manchester City to the throne.
It’s great to have the football back.
