Sport returns

Horse racing started the ball rolling. Golf has now kicked in and soon the Premier League will be back on our tv screens and radio airwaves.

Sport matters and it has been sorely missed.

My Good Self has missed football the most. Gary Lineker and the boys on ‘Match of the day’. Mark Chapman and his gang of 5 Live reporters running around the grounds with team news, goals and post match interviews on Saturday afternoons.

We all need distraction and escapism, and the drama of sport provides that in bundles.

Was it a penalty? Did he dive? Why does the referee refuse to go to the pitchside monitor in order to make his own mind up on VAR (video assisted referee) decisions? This particular issue is one that defies logic.

And so The Boys From Anfield (Liverpool) will most likely soon claim their first title in 30 years.

Manchester United fans will not be celebrating, as was the case for Liverpool fans during Uniteds glory years under Alex Ferguson.

What a great manager Ferguson was, working every possible angle to move things in the direction of his team.

And what a great manager Jurgen Klopp is for Liverpool, leaving aside the fact that he is just a thoroughly likeable and good person.

My Good Self has the bottle of bubbly waiting.

I’m hoping I won’t have to wait too long.
