Taoiseach Leo Varadkar gave an excellent address to the nation last night.
He spoke from the heart and covered all aspects of the current situation.
He is the right man to lead the country through these turbulent times.
One of the things he talked about was the importance of taking some mental distance from present events.
The need for distraction.
Indeed My Good Self has been taking a little wander down this particular road of late and has duly added a new favourite radio station to my repertoire of listening.
BBC Radio 4 Extra.
It was the Queen of the Spherical Objects wot did it.
We had been doing a little catching up recently, discussing the great questions of life.
The ever increasing cost of a pint of Guinness.
The specific nourishment value of the Santa Helena Merlot.
That kind of thing.
The chat drifted to favourite radio stations.
She was telling me of her fondness for BBC Radio 4 Extra.
When the Queen of the Spherical Objects speaks, My Good Self listens.
BBC Radio 4 Extra tends to focus on matters comedic and dramatic.
No COVID-19.
And so, in these uncertain times, My Good Self has been injecting a wee bit more comedy and drama into the little grey cells that constitute the space between my ears.
Old episodes of my two all time favourite tv shows ‘Cheers’ and ‘Yes Minister’ have also been getting an airing.
Leo also spoke of relying on trusted media sources when the inevitable happens and we tune in for latest updates.
My Good Self does not do social media and has no time for the conspiracy theories currently doing the rounds.
The BBC and RTE are my media bibles.
The best piece of advice I have heard so far came from a health expert on BBC’s ‘Newsnight’ programme.
He said that in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 people should behave as though they already have it.
Makes perfect sense to me.
