Equality and light

The world will always be an unequal place.

It’s just the way it is.

Equal pay between men and women remains a global issue.

Equal rights for black and white will never fully come to pass.

Full equality between vision impaired skiers and sighted guides is, however, standard practice on three of the four groups that I have skied with over the years.

The odd one out is the trip that I have just been on.

There are no rights or wrongs on the issue of equal payment by all on vision impaired ski trips. Both sides have legitimate arguments.

Sighted guides take time and money out to assist vision impaired people. Some say they should receive a subsidy for their efforts. Others would argue the vision impaired should not be out of pocket for something that is not their fault, namely limited or no eyesight.

For My Good Self it all boils down to a question of light.

Light is a key factor in vision impaired skiing. Brightness, shade, flat light, they are all significant matters on the slopes.

When it comes to the matter of equal payment by all on ski trips, My Good Self sees those in favour in a clear, bright light and those who are not, in a lesser light.

I have skirted around the issue for many years now with regard to this particular trip, on account of my love for skiing.

I can do it no more.

I’m out.

  1. Did I really read that correctly? How can you be out? I have read all your ski-ing posts – and it is abundantly clear that you LOVE it…
So, I hope you meant that you are out as regards this years specific skiing organization – after all there was equality in the years before?
