It was an early start.
A seven a.m. flight meant a four o’clock kick off.
Oh dear.
More of the gang were met and duly greeted in the airport terminal and soon we were winging our way to the Land of Zidane (France).
Arrival in Chambery is followed by a two hour coach transfer to our hotel in Tignes. The Guinness Pensioner is already there to greet us, and a bowl of soup, some coffee and cake is available to recharge the batteries.
Off then to sort out ski hire and ski pass. No major hassles here, done and dusted, all set for the week ahead.
Next port of call is a local hostelry.
A skier has to do what a skier has to do.
After a little bit of wandering around my Gang of Four stroll into a nice hotel bar.
A bit too nice.
A large and small beer, along with two vin chauds and some nibbles comes to a very tasty 29 euro.
A return visit is unlikely.
Check in proper back at base camp and I am rooming with The Drummer Dude. We have shared living quarters on a few previous occasions.
He’s a good lad.
The remainder of the evening was taken up by team meetings, dinner and the arrival of the remainder of our group.
And then, lo and behold, the hay beckoned.
